Research Assistant Position – Experiment in Game Theory

Professor Sungmin Park in the Department of Economics at National Taiwan University is hiring a part-time Research Assistant to help develop and implement a research experiment on strategic reasoning and belief formation in games.

The project studies how people form beliefs and choose strategies in games with imperfect feedback. The experiment will use a simplified poker environment to examine how subjects learn from observed and unobserved outcomes.

Research Tasks

As a research assistant, you will help with several aspects of the project, including:

  • Coding and testing the experimental interface in oTree
  • Implementing the experimental design in a clear and reliable way
  • Preparing English and Mandarin instructions for the experiment
  • Organizing and cleaning experimental data
  • Conducting basic data analysis
  • Creating tables, figures, and summary statistics
  • Writing clear documentation for code, data, and experimental procedures
  • Assisting with pilot sessions, experimental sessions, and troubleshooting when needed

Specific tasks will depend on the needs and progress of the experimental projec

Qualifications
We welcome applications from NTU undergraduate and graduate students.
Applicants should have:

  • Experience with programming
  • Familiarity with basic data cleaning and analysis
  • Proficiency in both English and Mandarin
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Ability to write clean, well-documented code
  • Responsibility, reliability, and willingness to communicate clearly

Experience with oTree and Python is especially welcome. Experience assisting experiments at TASSEL (Taiwan Social Sciences Experimental Laboratory) is also welcome. Background in economics, computer science, data science, mathematics, psychology, or a related field is preferred.

Prior knowledge of game theory or poker is helpful but not necessary.

Work Environment

  • Part-time position
  • Start date: as soon as possible
  • Work arrangement: flexible, with occasional in-person meetings on the NTU campus, online meetings, and in-person experimental sessions
  • Working language: English
