1. The Department of Economics launched the “Data Science and Social Inquiry Cross-Disciplinary Specialty Program” in the 2017 academic year, aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary talent equipped with knowledge in social sciences as well as data science and quantitative analysis skills. Since its inception, the program has helped numerous students develop capabilities in data analysis, programming applications, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving.
2. In response to the College of Social Sciences launching the “Bachelor’s Degree of College of Social Sciences” in the 2024 academic year, which integrates relevant courses from the “Data Science and Social Inquiry Cross-Disciplinary Specialty Program ” as core compulsory courses under the “Data Science Track,” the interdisciplinary program will be discontinued and replaced by the college bachelor’s degree. This decision was approved during the first academic affairs meeting of the 2024 academic year.
3. Courses previously offered under the “Data Science and Social Inquiry Cross-Disciplinary Specialty Program,” such as Data Science and Social Inquiry and Capstone in Data Science and Social Research, have been incorporated into the core compulsory curriculum of the “Data Science Track” within the Bachelor’s Degree of College of Social Sciences. These courses will continue to be offered and will not be affected by the discontinuation of the cross-disciplinary program.
4. To protect students’ rights, undergraduate students enrolling in the 2024 academic year will be the last cohort eligible to apply for the “Data Science and Social Inquiry Cross-Disciplinary Specialty Program.” Starting with the 2025 academic year, applications for this interdisciplinary program will no longer be accepted.
