NTU Department of Economics–Waseda University International Dual Degree Program: Call for Applications
Students who are interested in studying at Waseda University beginning in April 2027 should submit the required application documents to Teaching Assistant Chen Shang-Yu at the Department of Economics office by 5:00 PM on October 16. Official admission notifications will be issued by Waseda University in late February 2027.
Application Documents
For the Japanese-Taught Program at the School of Political Science and Economics
- Application form.
- One copy of the applicant’s official NTU academic transcript in Chinese. The applicant’s cumulative GPA must be 3.225 or above.
- Proof of passing Level N1 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), or an Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) Japanese score of 220 or above out of 400.
- An autobiography/personal statement and study plan, with one version in Chinese and one in Japanese. There is no prescribed format.
For the English-Taught Program at the School of Political Science and Economics
- Application form.
- One copy of the applicant’s official NTU academic transcript in Chinese. The applicant’s cumulative GPA must be 3.225 or above.
- Proof of one of the following English-language proficiency qualifications:
- TOEFL iBT: 80 or above
- IELTS: 6.0 or above
- An autobiography/personal statement and study plan, with one version in Chinese and one in English. There is no prescribed format.
Important Notes
- Students participating in this program must return to NTU and continue their studies for one semester after completing three semesters at Waseda University. To receive a degree from Waseda University, students must also obtain an NTU degree with Economics as their major.
- Of the 64 credits earned at Waseda University, a maximum of 20 credits may be transferred and counted toward the general elective credits required for graduation from the NTU Department of Economics.
- Applicants must be third-year students or above in the NTU Department of Economics and must have completed or currently be taking the following courses:
- Political Science
- Principles of Microeconomics and Recitation
- Principles of Macroeconomics and Recitation
- Statistics and Recitation
- The Bai Xian Asia Institute in Hong Kong has offered the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) since 2014. Non-Japanese students planning to study at Waseda University may apply for the scholarship. However, applicants will compete with degree-seeking students from across Asia who plan to study in Japan. Interested students should consult the Bai Xian Asia Institute website for further information.
