“Dr. Huang Qi-Fu’s Series of Speeches”

The Department of Mathematics of National Taiwan University invited Dr. Huang Qi-Fu to visit the Department of Economics from September 28th to October 17th. Funded by Jing-Cheng Information and this seminar.

Dr. Huang Qi-Fu will have three speeches about “Mathematical Foundations of Financial Engineering” during his visit, and a large public lecture to share experiences with his audience. In addition, a week before school start, there will be a 9-hour foundation preparation course by Professor Han Chuan-Xiang for Dr. Huang’s activities.

Dr. Huang Qi-Fu’s bio:
Dr. Huang is the world’s leading financier. In 1983, he received a Ph.D. in Finance from Stanford. Then taught at the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Eight years later, he was appointed as a JC Penney Lecture Professor. He co-authored with Litzenberger in 1988, “Foundations of Financial Economics,” which is still a biblical classic in the field, in addition that is the first introductory textbook for financial economics courses at major universities. Dr. Huang left MIT in 1993 and began his fascinating story in the industry. He used to be the partner of LTCM, the world’s largest and most dazzling hedge fund, and the head of its Asian operations. He co-founded Hedge Fund Company, PGAM (Platinum Grove Asset Management) with Nobel Prize winners Myron Scholes and others, and served as CEO. He was the head of Goldman Sachs’ Global Derivative Products R&D department when he entered the industry.
Dr. Huang graduated with the Bachelor of Economics from National Taiwan University in 1977. During his time as a doctoral student at Stanford, he studied many courses from the Department of Mathematics. These solid mathematical foundations helped him to become famous for establishing various mathematical models in the financial markets.
