Lecture 1

時間:12 月 22 日(星期一)13:30–15:00
地點:社科院 608 教室
演講主題: Screening with Tests

摘要:

I study the monopolistic design of a college admissions test. Students have private information about their ability and apply to colleges by submitting verifiable resumes in addition to test results. Due to screening frictions, the profit maximizing testing structure is less informative than colleges would prefer and distorts admissions probabilities for students with poor resumes. Mandatory testing only makes things worse.

Lecture 2

時間:12 月 23 日(星期二)14:00–15:30

地點:社科院 403 教室

演講主題: Managing Information Over Time

摘要:

The timing and framing of information shapes human behavior, motivation, and even emotion. We’ll see how something as simple as a phone notification, a delayed update from a regulator, or a carefully chosen bit of feedback can change what people do—even when no money, rules, or force
are involved. I show how information can act as a nudge, a carrot, a source of coordination, and even a tool for creating drama, from the suspense of a sports match to the twists of a mystery novel. Along the way, we’ll examine why withholding information can sometimes encourage perseverance, why revealing too much can trigger panic, and why great storytellers must occasionally dare to be boring. The goal is to uncover the surprising power of information—not as data, but as a design choice that shapes our expectations, our decisions, and our experiences.
